EXCELLENTVerified Awesome little place for a peaceful few days. Loved it our stay here after completing Kilimanjaro. So peaceful compared to moshi and the staff couldn’t do enough to help you with anything you might need. The grounds are absolutely stunning, so much so that we spent quite a lot of time sat in the beautiful gardens. The living room is airy and really cosy. The rooms are large, equipped with fans and everywhere is impeccably clean. Wifi is fast. The staff are lovely, attentive and catered to our every need throughout the whole 5 days of our stay, even preparing breakfast for us at 5am and giving us a lift with them to the marathon! The food is absolutely delicious and so reasonably priced. Beers and waters are kept in a fridge for hotter days. Mama thea herself and all the staff are friendly. Karibu!Verified Eher durchwachsene Erfahrung Wenn man sich für eine Unterkunft jenseits teurer Touristen-Lodges entscheidet, weiß man, dass man Kompromisse eingeht und nicht mit europäischen Maßstäben messen darf. Auch habe ich in Moshi keinen direkten Vergleich zu anderen Unterkünften. Daher finde ich es schwierig, für die Unterkunft eine faire Bewertung abzugeben. Dennoch halte ich die bisherigen ausschließlich sehr positiven Bewertungen auf TripAdvisor für irreführend und möchte hiermit eine differenzierte Einschätzung abgeben. In Tansania insgesamt hatten wir bessere und schlechtere Unterkünfte als Mama Thea Homes. Da liegt Mama Thea Homes also im guten Mittelfeld. Sauberkeit: Bei Mama Thea hatte ich das einzige mal in ganz Tansania das Bedürfnis in meinem eigenen Schlafsack zu schlafen. Der Raum war eindeutig nicht gründlich vom vorherigen Nutzer gereinigt worden. Auch während unseres mehrtägigen Aufenthalts wurde das Zimmer nicht gereinigt. Zudem hing im Zimmer ein nicht näher zu identifizierender extrem muffiger Geruch, den wir auch Tage später noch in unseren Klamotten hatten. Das Zimmer war sehr geräumig. Die auf der Buchungsplattform aufgelistete üppige Zimmerausstattung ließ sich allerdings in keinster Weise wiederfinden. Das anwesende Personal (Mama Thea selber war bei unserem Aufenthalt nicht da) war sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. In der Summe vieler Kleinigkeiten war es aber eher unprofessionell. Frühstück: War sehr vielseitig und umfangreich und es wurde auch auf individuelle Wünsche eingegangen. Lage: Ist eher abgeschieden mitten in einem Wohnviertel am Rande von Moshi gelegen. Das kann je nach eigenen Bedürfnissen als Vor- oder Nachteil empfunden werden. Um ins Zentrum von Moshi zu gelangen, braucht man zumindest ein Transportmittel. Der Unterkunft steht ein eigener - guter und auch gut englisch sprechender - Fahrer zur Verfügung. Leider wird diese Dienstleistung zu einem stark überteuerten Preis angeboten. Viele ausländische Gäste dürften das gar nicht merken. Aber wenn man schon ein wenig Zeit in Tansania verbracht hat und ein Gefühl für die heimischen Preise hat, fühlt man sich schon sehr abgezockt und die abseits gelegene Lage wird stark ausgenutzt. Unterm Strich - auch im Vergleich zu anderen Unterkünften in Tansania - stimmt hier meines Erachtens das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis nicht.Verified Great cozy place. We stayed 3 nights , very warm and friendly staff , Rita and Lordiga took good care of our every need. This is not a regular hotel , it is situated in a secluded area of Moshi.The rooms are very spacious, the grounds are very nicely up kept. It feels more like you are a guest in a family's home. For example no menu provided ,instead you are asked what you would like to eat and that is made to request. The room was not entered the entire time that we stayed like at regular hotels we also used our own towels. Very nice and affordable place to stay.Verified Excellent staff, clean rooms, wonderful breakfasts I stayed at Mama Thea's Home for nearly three weeks - as I was working at Amani Centre for Street Children. The staff were always friendly and helpful (and speak excellent English), the property is well maintained and my room clean. Hot showers and a wonderful full breakfast were welcomed additions. The neighborhood is quiet - except for the occasional barking dog and roosters - but that is expected. The property is fenced and guards on duty 24 hours a day - so it feels safe and comfortable. The photos on this site show the main house - yet the guest room where I stayed - was in a house in the back. Very nice although you must climb spiral stairs to reach the second floor where the rooms are. They may have other options - Mama Thea is very accommodating. I always feel welcomed and supported by Mama Thea and her team of professionals. As other reviewers shared, the home is located in a convenient location to Moshi Town and for my time volunteering at a local school. The home is clean, food is fresh and diverse to please many palates, and the grounds and gardens are lovely. Safety and security is assured and tv is also available if desired. Mama Thea is so knowledgeable of the area and will gladly share tips for navigating the area for example shopping or visiting local sites. Overall, I feel so comfortable here and relaxed. This is a smaller hotel so the staff are able to focus on each customer and attend to each one’s needs. It’s a gated hotel with a stationed security guard at the gate.
